This is an example of good poetry because:

This song has a deep meaning, as it talks about the stages of life. It talks about the "family of trees,"waiting for the next generation, which I believe finally comes when "a baby is born."

I also believe the song is kind of a electronic, hipster environmental message telling us to "control ourselves, take only what we need (from the earth)." It also poetically describes water pollution, "the water is warm, but its giving me shivers."

The song also has a rhyming pattern throughout.
"The water is warm
But it's sending me shivers
A baby is born."
."-- warm and born rhyme.

MGMT Kids lyrics

You were a child,
crawlin' on your knees toward it.
Makin' mama so proud,
but your voice was too loud.

We like to watch you laughing.
You pick the insects off plants.
No time to think of consequences.

Control yourself.
Take only what you need from it.
A family of trees wantin',
To be haunted.

Control yourself.
Take only what you need from it.
A family of trees wantin',
To be haunted.

The water is warm,
but its sending me shivers.
A baby is born,
crying out for attention.
Memories fade,
like looking through a fogged mirror
Decisions to decisions are made and not fought
But I thought,
this wouldn't hurt a lot.
I guess not.

Control yourself.
Take only what you need from it.
A family of trees wantin',
To be haunted.

Control yourself.
Take only what you need from it.
A family of trees wantin',
To be haunted.
